The akuratemp™ ATS3 is an all-season, multi-use biological specimen transport kit utilizing phase change technology to protect from freezing and heat to keep the payload temperature between +15°C (59°F) to +25°C (+77°F). These kits are independently tested as per ISTA 7D 24 Hour Summer and Winter Profiles. They are integrated with a TagBox™ sensor to provide cloud-based real-time temperature monitoring and end-to-end traceability. These specimen transport kits ensure temperature stability and real-time monitoring during transportation to minimize specimen rejection.
The akuratemp™ ATS3 is ideal for all-season transportation of biological specimens at Control Room Temperature providing freeze and heat protection.
How It Works:
The akuratemp™ ATS3 is filled with a combination of eco-friendly +22°C (+77°F) and +18°C (+65°F) phase change materials. The Ambient Pack is solid at packout and releases cold energy as it liquifies, absorbing heat. This cooling effect keeps the payload below +25°C. The CRT pack is liquid at packout, releasing heat during phase change from liquid to solid. This warming effect keeps the payload above +15°C. The insulation material, PCM type and PCM quantity are sized to deliver a 24 hour holdover time in Summer, with a greater than 23 hour holdover time in Winter.

To carry out environmental conditioning of ATS3 Specimen Transport Kit to maintain a controlled temperature range of 15°C to 25°C for 24 hours when exposed to the ISTA 7D-24 Hour Summer and Winter Profiles.
Charging of the PCM Plates:
The PCM Ambient Packs were charged by placing them on a metal tray in a refrigerator set at +2°C to +8°C for at least 24 hours prior to pack out. After charging the plates were placed at room temperature (+15°C to +20°C) for at least 2 hours. The PCM CRT Packs were charged by placing them on a metal tray in an environmental chamber set at 23°C +/- 2°C for at least 24 hours prior to pack out.
The ATS3 Specimen Transport Kit was packed out for both profiles by placing one Ambient pack in the base of the PUF shipper. The CRT saddle pack was placed on top of the Ambient pack with the data probe placed in between the CRT pack halves. An Ambient Pack was then placed on top of the CRT saddle pack. The PUF lid was closed and secured with a velcro strap.
